Relief well planning with our Senior Vice President of Well Control and Blowout Support
What you will learn
The Relief Well Planning course offers a comprehensive guide to what a relief well plan is and why it is essential, providing an excellent starting point for those unfamiliar with the process.
The course covers the what, why and how of relief well planning, with topics including relief well surface sites, targets, construction and blowout and kill hydraulics. Not only will attendees gain a broad understanding of what a relief well plan is and why they need it, everyone who completes the course will leave with a robust plan which demonstrates how a relief well can be drilled quickly and efficiently.
Why you need this course
Although there is a high probability that you will be able to drill your well without occurrence of a blowout, there is also a small possibility that you won’t. The industry doesn’t like to talk about the risks and occurrence of blowouts but there are major disasters that have taken place, such as Deepwater Horizon/Macondo and Piper Alpha.
If you don’t have a relief well plan, you run the enormous risk of wasting a huge amount of time, money and causing an insurmountable amount of damage later on by not being prepared. Rather than scrambling around at the last minute under duress, you should know ahead of time whether or not it’s possible to drill a relief well and be able to react immediately and efficiently if a blowout occurs.

What you will learn
The curriculum of our NORSOK D-010 training course takes learners through the standard chapter by chapter to provide a deeper understanding of the basic well integrity principles and processes, as well as a range of guidelines in preventing and solving well integrity issues.
The course has largely been designed for operating companies, however, it is also well suited to regulators, as well as drilling contractors and service companies who are involved in well construction and servicing activities. Topics covered include general principles, drilling and completion, abandonment, blowout control and contingency planning and real life case studies to solidify the learnings within each topic.

Why you need this course
The D-010 is a foundational standard when it comes to understanding wells and what is needed to maintain control of a well. If you don’t abide by these guidelines – which often happens unintentionally – you can potentially find yourself in an extremely dangerous situation. Wells can be devastating if they become out of control, so it’s important that everyone involved in well construction understands their responsibility in ensuring safety and integrity.
A lot of people assume these standards would be covered at university if they study petroleum engineering or drilling engineering, but this unfortunately isn’t the case. The course within The Add Energy Academy is one of a kind and at present, there isn’t a comparable course on the market that can take students through each section of the standard in the same way that we do.
