Add Energy increases the portfolio of casing magnetization jobs
Interest is growing as operators are discovering the multiple benefits of casing magnetization. add energy has conducted more than 20 projects, and request have increased in Norway and overseas during the last year.
Magnetic bearing is used to locate the casing in an uncontained well and facilitate intersection with a relief well. The detectable range is increased by casing pre-magnetization and the relief well can be drilled faster and more accurately. Well avoidance is also made easier in case of tight well spacing. The projects are performed in collaboration with Vector Magnetics LLC who provides the proven tracking and ranging technology. The long lasting magnetic field is obtained by exposing the casing to a magnetic field created by an electrified coil. Completed projects include:
- 7″ shallow casing Barents Sea, Norway
- 9 ⅞” casing for salt formation Gabon
- 13 ⅜” casing magnetized in Las Palmas, Spain
- 20″ shallow casing Norway
