Senior Operations Geologist

Objective of the function:
• Participate as geologist with operations geology knowledge in the planning, operational and post operational work of drilling a well.
• Liaise between Exploration/Subsurface group and the Drilling organization in all phases of the drilling of a well.
• Supervise subsurface personnel at the well site e.g. well site geologists during drilling of the well.
• Work closely between Subsurface and Drilling Teams and reporting to Drilling Function.

Responsibilities and Work Tasks:
Planning:
• Coordinate the planning phase of a new well between the Project Exploration/Subsurface Team and the Drilling Team.
• Use operational geology experience to improve operational effectiveness and cost reduction.
• Participation and contribution to well planning meetings and assist in optimization of well trajectory and target definition.
• Contribute to Site Survey work completed including integration of geological risks and shallow gas assessment etc.
• Responsible for Data Acquisition Plan. Liaise with third party Data Acquisition suppliers and planning. Provide relevant input regarding Data Acquisition cost estimates for AFE.
• Responsible for the Geological chapter of the drilling program to include Geological Prognosis, Data Acquisition plan, decision trees etc
• Responsible for Pore Pressure prediction and relevant chapter in the drilling program.
• Give input to the well design regarding casing size and setting depth.
• Contribute to pre-drill risk assessment meetings.
• Contribute to Pre-Spud meetings with subsurface information including objectives, risks, pore pressure etc.
• Communicate relevant information to Partners and NPD (eg. Daily Reporting via L2S).
Operations:
• Geological supervision of drilling operations.
• Point of contact between Subsurface and Drilling Teams to communicate all relevant aspects of the well including any deviations from plan or inability to achieve objectives
• Point of contact to subsurface Wellsite personnel including Wellsite Geologists etc.
• Management of Subsurface wellsite personnel including Wellsite Geologists to ensure good communication and that all subsurface objectives are achieved.
• Responsible for successful acquisition of data as detailed in Data Acquistion Plan. Responsible for delivery of all Geological Deliveries to Subsurface teams including daily Geological Report etc. Responsible for the monitoring and quality assurance of the real-time pore pressure evaluation.
• Responsible for ensuring HSE requirements are followed during operation.
• Communicate relevant information and data to Partners and NPD. Responsible for Operation Duty outlined in Operational Duty Plan.
• Responsible for the coordination between relevant personnel including Subsurface team members to complete required work to make the relevant technical operational decisions to ensure successful delivery of well objectives.
• Responsible for capturing lessons learned during operations.

Post Operations:
• Responsible for organizing the post well Subsurface meeting.
• Responsible with the Petroleum Engineer / Petrophysicist for acquired data.
• Responsible for completion of Final well logs.
• Responsible for coordination and completion of Final Well Report.
• Responsible for systematizing and archiving of acquired data in the existing relevant databases.
• Responsible in cooperation with the Petroleum Engineer and Drilling Engineer for quality control of the reports from the service companies (Mud logging, MWD, Coring etc.)
• Responsible for sharing of all relevant and required data to Partners and Authorities.
• Responsible for capturing and sharing lessons learned to ensure continuous improvement within the company.
• Responsible for organizing wrap up meetings with third party vendors and suppliers.
• Responsible for submitting third party vendors and suppliers score cards and feedback.
• Responsible in cooperation with the Petroleum Engineer and Drilling Engineer for the cross-control of invoices.

Education and experience:
• University Geology Degree
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.

Personal skills:
• Good communication skills essential, proactively seeking advice from others and share own experiences within and outside group.
• Good interpersonal skills. Contribute to make the Subsurface team a good and fun place to work.
• Ability to operate within time constraints and make well informed decisions using available data.
• Candidate must have strong organizational skillset.
• Good presentation skills.
• Good knowledge of the English language.
