AGR is pleased to have supported the successful appraisal of the 34/12-1 “Afrodite” gas and condensate discovery in the Norwegian North Sea, providing specialist expertise throughout the drilling of well 35/7-2.
Operated by Wellesley Petroleum, the 35/7-2 appraisal well was drilled by the Deepsea Yantai rig approximately 35 kilometres northeast of the Kvitebjørn field. The well confirmed the Afrodite discovery, which was originally made in 2008, and provided important new insight.
AGR supported the drilling operation by providing operations and wellsite geology and well control specialist expertise helping achieve key well objectives.
Afrodite is a high-pressure, high-temperature gas/condensate discovery with tight reservoir characteristics. The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 4,667 metres below sea level, in a water depth of 376 metres (source Norwegian Offshore Directorate).
The licensees in production licence 293 are Equinor Energy as operator, ORLEN Upstream Norway, DNO Norge and Wellesley Petroleum.
On Afrodite, AGR helped bring greater confidence to complex reservoir and well decisions, drawing on decades of Norwegian North Sea experience across involvement in 390+ wells and 1,000+ well control assignments, and a network of 26,000 specialists to scale the right expertise to a project’s needs.
