AGR was proud to support Aker BP as part of the integrated drilling and wellsite geology crew onboard the Deepsea Stavanger rig during a high‑impact exploration campaign in the Yggdrasil area.
The campaign comprised five exploration targets: Omega, Alfa, Alfa South, Sigma NE, and Pi, and included several ultra‑long horizontal reservoir sections, pushing the boundaries of drilling performance on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
Client Challenges
The Yggdrasil campaign presented a complex operational environment with multiple exploration targets, extended reach drilling, and the need to manage geological uncertainty across ultra‑long well trajectories. Delivering accurate, real‑time geological insight was critical to optimising well placement, minimising risk, and maintaining performance throughout the record‑length sections.
The outcome
AGR’s operations and wellsite geologists were embedded within the integrated drilling team, providing continuous, high‑quality subsurface interpretation and decision support.
Drawing on deep regional knowledge and extensive operational experience, the team applied sound geological judgement combined with analytical modelling to assess and quantify subsurface risk. Close collaboration and continuity within the team ensured seamless knowledge transfer, clear communication, and consistent execution across all wells.
The campaign delivered outstanding results, setting new drilling records for the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The longest well reached 10,666 metres, with three branches exceeding 10,000 metres – the longest ever drilled in the Norwegian Continental Shelf. In addition, the campaign resulted in a significant discovery in the Yggdrasil area, reinforcing the value of integrated, risk‑informed geological support.
What value did we deliver
AGR’s integrated wellsite geology support helped reduce subsurface uncertainty, optimize well placement, and drive drilling performance throughout the campaign. Our contribution supported the delivery of Norway’s longest horizontal well, alongside multiple ultra‑long branches exceeding 10,000 metres – achievements that set new benchmarks on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
