Role 1 – Operational Safety Coach

Key Responsibilities

  1. Maintain a visible field presence during daily operations—observe, coach, and support crews in real time.
  2. Review upcoming work plans with teams—method statements, risk assessments, and procedures—to confirm clarity and readiness before work starts.
  3. Coach supervisors and crews on hazard identification, dynamic risk assessment, and control-of-work discipline.

  7. Mentor line supervisors on consistent use of permits, isolation systems, and safe-work standards.
  8. Observe and advise on contractor performance—ensuring adherence to company standards, not shortcuts.
  9. Build a proactive safety culture through approachable coaching, informal dialogue, and recognition of good practice.
  10. Identify emerging risks or repeated deviations early and guide teams toward corrective or preventive action.
  11. Encourage cross-functional communication between drilling, marine, maintenance, and HSE to keep safety central to decision-making.
  12. Recommend practical improvements to procedures or tools where they create friction or risk during execution.
  13. Provide concise feedback to rig leadership—factual, actionable, low on paperwork.
  14. Model calm, competent leadership during planning, transition, and execution—showing what good looks like.
