As part of the Techconsult team in Oslo, Johanna Larson specialises in technical staffing and engineering recruitment, connecting companies with highly skilled professionals across energy, infrastructure, and technology projects. With a strong understanding of the Norwegian market and the demands of complex engineering tasks, Johanna focuses on identifying the right talent to support our clients’ project delivery and long-term workforce needs.
We sat down with Johanna to find out more about her daily working day as part of our resourcing team and technical recruitment source.
1. Give us a glimpse into your day-to-day life at Techconsult so far. What keeps you on your toes in your work?
I’m currently in my fourth week at Techconsult and starting to get into the rhythm of the day-to-day work: sourcing candidates, reaching out and connecting. At the same time, I’m focused on learning as much as possible from my competent colleagues, about the industry, and the different roles I’m working with. What keeps me on my toes is definitely the fast paced environment and market.
2. What drew you to recruitment and what keeps you passionate about it?
The mix of working with people and the strategic part of it, how to attract talented people and finding the right match. I find it interesting what motivates people and what makes them enjoy their work. Technical recruitment is a way to work with that and try to bring the right match for both candidates and clients.
What keeps me passionate is the variety and the people I get to meet and talk to. I think it’s interesting to hear about different backgrounds, what people do, and what they are interested in, and the challenge in trying to connect that to new opportunities.
3. Can you tell us about something exciting you are working on right now?
At this moment I`m working on sourcing Senior Instrument Engineers and Job Setter Lead. These are quite new roles for me, so I’m spending some time getting familiar with the profiles and understanding what the clients are looking for. I’m constantly learning, both about the positions and the industry itself which is very fun and exciting.
4. Based on your experience, what do you see as the biggest challenges facing talent management and how can these be effectively addressed?
One of the main challenges in talent management today is the fast pace and constantly changing market, combined with strong competition for talent. This makes it increasingly challenging to find candidates with the right experience and skill set. I think these high demands from both clients and candidates require a flexible approach, a broad perspective, and well thought out strategies to successfully navigate the market.
5. What’s your favourite part about working in human relations?
I think my favourite part is just getting to know and meet different people. I find it really interesting to hear about peoples backgrounds, what they enjoy doing, and what they’re looking for next.
6. What would you say to those worried AI will take over human skills?
I don’t believe AI can fully replace human skills, especially in areas like recruitment and human relations, where understanding people and building trust and relationships are essential. I see AI more as a supporting tool that can help streamline and improve efficiency in parts of the process. This allows us to spend more time on what truly adds value, building strong relationships and finding the right match between people and organisations.
