With over 22 years of dedicated service, Mahmood Akbar, Advisor Reservoir Engineering, has been a cornerstone of our Reservoir Management team, bringing unparalleled expertise and commitment to his role. His extensive experience spans reservoir simulation, reserves audit and certification, and, more recently, contributing to the global energy transition through CO2 storage projects. Mahmood’s wealth of knowledge and passion for innovation make him an invaluable asset to our team and our clients.

Additionally, Mahmood is our very own pilot. It’s not rare he flies his colleagues to meetings. His love for flying keeps him soaring through the skies, while his passion for geology keeps him grounded in the depths of the earth.

What do you do, and when would your colleagues come to you for help?
I am a reservoir engineer, primarily focused on reservoir simulation and reserves audit/certification. Currently, my work is dedicated to energy transition and decarbonisation by simulating geological storage of CO2 in the North Sea. Colleagues often approach me for discussions or clarifications regarding reserves classification.

What was the first concert you attended?
I can’t recall the name of the band, but it was a rock concert with energy that could easily register 4 on the Richter scale.

What was your first job?
My first job was a part-time position at a factory assembling ring binders.

What is your favorite destination and why?
Anywhere that’s a few thousand feet above ground. The altitude is where I feel most at peace.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
That’s a tough one—I’m not good at keeping secrets, so there’s probably not much left for others to uncover!

Mahmood will be presenting at the Reservoir & Production Management Conference 2024, hosted by the Norwegian Petroleum Society in Stavanger on November 26-27, 2024.

His presentation, titled The Use of Ensemble Reservoir Simulation, will cover key advantages, challenges, pitfalls, and limitations of ensemble reservoir simulation, providing practical insights and discussing best practices for effective reservoir management.
