Proven technical depth in GIS, ground modelling, and dataset management
We deliver reliable, vessel-based geophysical site surveys for offshore energy and offshore wind, combining deep expertise in GIS, dataset management and geohazard interpretation to build an accurate understanding of seabed and shallow seabed conditions. The result is stronger site characterisation and route engineering support, enabling deeper insights before offshore execution begins.
By identifying ground conditions, constraints and potential geohazards early, our surveys support safer site selection, more robust route and layout design for cables and infrastructure, and more reliable foundation and subsea engineering. This means fewer offshore surprises, smoother installation, stronger compliance support, and reduced downtime and lifetime cost exposure.
Our multidisciplinary team of certified geophysical specialists brings decades of offshore experience, supported by robust QA/QC procedures aligned with industry standards. We deliver survey and mapping outcomes that are adaptable to changing project conditions, prioritising deadlines, safety, and quality at every stage.
Surveys are executed by our vessels with offshore-ready teams and fit-for-scope mobilisation, providing predictable delivery, strong operational control, and dependable data quality.
Geophysical survey solutions
We offer a suite of geophysical survey types to support offshore delivery at every phase of the project lifecycle.
Survey types:
- Geophysical Site Surveys (2D UHRS)
- Reconnaissance surveys
- Route and corridor surveys (including pipeline and cable corridors)
- Wreck surveys
- UXO
- Environmental survey support (scope-dependent)
Survey methods and sensor packages
- Hull mounted Geophysical investigations (MBES, SSS, SBP, MAG, 2DUHRS)
- ROV mounted Geophysical investigations (MBES, SSS, SBP, MAG, 2DUHRS)
- AUV Geophysical investigations (MBES, SSS, SBP, MAG, 2DUHRS, GVI)
We employ advanced acquisition technology, including multibeam echosounders with backscatter and water column data, side scan sonar, sub-bottom profilers, ultra-high-resolution seismic (UHRS) sparker systems, magnetometers, and drop-down keels — all designed to ensure optimal data quality and coverage.
High-precision positioning is achieved through HiPAP systems, while Starlink communication platforms enable real-time data transfer and coordination with onshore teams.
Working closely with the wider ABL Group brand family, we integrate geophysical and geotechnical consultancy, design and engineering so clients get one joined-up view of ground conditions and infrastructure development for offshore energy and offshore wind projects.
Our integrated geophysical and geotechnical engineering, and geoscience capability includes:
- Ground model & interpretation: ground modelling, geotechnical interpretation
- Geospatial & data: geospatial analysis, geospatial data management
- Geohazards & risk: geohazard risk assessment, quantitative risk assessment (QRA)
- Design & installation engineering: geotechnical design and engineering, foundation installation analysis, jack-up leg penetration analyses
